Alfred P. Thorne lectured at some of the world’s most advanced economic studies institutions, including Oxford University, Cambridge University, the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University’s Economics Department. He won a Fulbright Scholarship to travel to Iran, but declined it for personal reasons. Poor By Design is the culmination of his life’s work.
Dr. Thorne earned a B.Comm Honors from the University of London School of Economics and a Masters in Business Administration and a PhD in Economics from Columbia University. His monograph, The Size, Structure and Growth of the Economy of Jamaica was a seminal work in the field and collected by private and public economic institutions and libraries worldwide.
Malaika Thorne earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a bachelor's degree from Brown University where she was an Oettinger National Scholar for four years. She has worked in the renewable energy, resource recovery and youth empowerment fields since 1996.
